Molly Olly’s is a charity that we love here at O’Brien! The bravery of Molly and her family touched our hearts and we love to try and do what we can to help this wonderful charity, to provide support to sick children and their families. We present Rachel with a cheque for £2,500 to go towards the fantastic service that they provide for sick children.
The Charity Molly Olly’s Wishes (known as Molly Olly’s) was founded in 2011 by Rachel and Tim . Their daughter Molly was diagnosed aged 3 with a Wilms tumour and despite a long and brave 5 year fight, died in 2011.
They spent a large part of those years in and out of hospital. They soon realised that many of the patients they met did not have the emotional or financial support that they had for Molly and her siblings. Molly wanted to help these children and so Molly Olly’s was born.
Wishes
Molly Olly’s provides wishes for children aged 0-18 who have life-threatening illnesses. The charity providing between 350 to 400 wishes each year, with each wish costing around £500. The children’s carers apply for a wish to help their child cope during their illness. A wish can be anything from a medical aid, a toy, outdoor play equipment, a bedroom makeover, days out, electronic devices to arts and crafts equipment.
Olly the Brave
Olly The Brave soft toy is given to children needing a central or Hickman line. The line enables medication to be given and bloods to be taken without the repeated use of needles.
Olly The Brave has his own line and also has a detachable mane that helps to explain and normalise the hair-loss that comes with many types of chemotherapy.
Several different manes are available with changes in hair colour and type that can occur when hair regrows after treatment.
Olly the Brave Books
As well as Olly the Brave, the Charity has produced six books covering different experiences associated with having a life-threatening illness. The books, which are beautifully written and illustrated by Diane Maybey, tell the story of Olly, his family and friends.
